Meltdown and Spectre

Written by Barry Cavener | Jan 4, 2018

In recent news, there have been two major security flaws identified in Intel and AMD processor chips dubbed “Meltdown” and “Spectre.”

As this problem could affect so many computers, data centers, and phones it is important to know there are no known incidents of a breach. Microsoft says it has “not received any information to indicate that these vulnerabilities have been used to attack customers at this time.”

We have been monitoring this story very closely and our clients have been our number one priority.

For our clients, we have taken the following steps:

  1. As patches are released to fix the problems, we will test them first before deployment on any of your environments.
  2. The Azure patches were deployed late yesterday and into the early morning successfully. Most of our customers did not see a slowdown or notice performance issues with the update.
  3. We will continue to closely monitor your environments in the coming days to make sure any downtime or disruption is kept to a minimum.

If there are concerns or questions please contact your Strategic Advisor.

For those of you that are not a VC3 client, here is some information you can view to help protect yourself. You should reach out to your IT department to help facilitate needs within your environment with the current updates and patches that are being released to fix the problem.

This is an unfortunate event that all service providers should be monitoring and responding to.  If you are stuck or need more assistance, contact us and we will help point you in the right direction.
