After three seasons, we were promoted to the Intermediate/Amateur class. Guess what? These boys are WAY more serious about this sport and did not give an inch to the new guys in the class! We rode our bikes a little more frequently and joined an exercise program to try to get in a little better shape. This helped quite a bit, but we were still top 5 or 10 riders in the class.
February 2013 rolled around and the new season began. Both of us a little sore from previous injuries, but ready to go. Mike and I lined up again…same results – top 5 or 10.
Shortly after the season began, we were pretty evenly matched, but it became perfectly clear to us what needed to be done. If one of us were to win the championship, something drastic would have to change. We both started working with a motocross riding coach, Drew Collins from RideITM.com, and hitting the gym harder. Both of us revised our plan and worked very hard.
As it turns out, we had our last race of the season on December 7th at Pala Raceway near Temecula. We finished 1st and 2nd in the race and 1st and 2nd for the season, with me coming out on top for the race and the season, just barely.
The parallel related to our business and personal lives is that if you want to achieve a difficult goal, you must do what others may not be willing to do. It is way more difficult, but if it is a goal you are serious about and really want to reach….that’s what it takes!
Goodbye 2013 – Bring on 2014!
